Inside conversational dispatch in Los Santos Alive

Police mods have always treated the radio as a menu. You press a key, pick “request backup”, and a prerecorded clip plays. It works, but nobody would mistake it for a conversation.

In Los Santos Alive, the radio is now a Genesis-powered channel you talk into.

Speak, don’t select

Hold the radio key and say what you need in your own words: ask for another unit, request information, call for resources or describe what’s happening at a scene. Dispatch understands the request and answers with generated speech, then the game carries out what was asked for.

More than two voices

The channel isn’t just you and dispatch. Responding officers join it too, so a single incident can involve:

• the player, reporting and requesting
• dispatch, coordinating and confirming
• responding units, acknowledging and updating as they arrive

Each speaker has its own voice, assigned by Genesis’s procedural vocal identity system, so the radio sounds like a department rather than one narrator.

Why it matters beyond GTA V

Dispatch is a small, demanding test of the Genesis Runtime. It needs to know who is speaking and to whom, keep track of an incident as several characters talk about it, and turn natural language into structured actions the game can execute. Those are the same problems any game with more than one AI character runs into.
