Introducing Genesis Gateway
One connection for speech recognition, language models and voice, with real-time routing around slow or failing providers. Live first for Los Santos Alive players.
· MotiveWorks
Today we are opening Genesis Gateway, the cloud layer of the Genesis platform, to Los Santos Alive players.
Why we built it
Los Santos Alive began on a single realtime model provider. It worked well until it didn’t: dropped sockets, sessions that never reconnected, slowdowns at peak hours and model deprecations we had no control over. When the provider stumbled, every character in the game went quiet at once.
Gateway removes that single point of failure. The game connects to Genesis, and Genesis decides which provider handles each part of a spoken turn.
What it does
Each turn is split into three stages: speech to text, the language model, and text to speech. For every stage, Gateway:
- Picks a route based on the account’s service mode (Economy, Balanced or Fast)
- Tracks latency per stage, including time from the player stopping speaking to the first audio coming back
- Fails over when a provider is slow, degraded or down, without the game client changing anything
- Accounts for usage in a single balance of Genesis credits
The provider mix behind Gateway already spans OpenAI realtime models, Google Gemini, Grok, Cerebras-hosted and OpenRouter-hosted models, and text-to-speech engines including Inworld. That mix will keep changing. The interface the game talks to will not.
Credits
Gateway is usage-based. Players top up Genesis credits through Stripe instead of managing their own API keys, and larger top-ups include bonus credits:
| Top-up | Credits |
|---|---|
| $10 | $10 |
| $20 | $25 |
| $30 | $45 |
What’s next
Gateway is the first public piece of Genesis. Genesis Runtime, the layer that gives characters world context and lets them take actions, is what powers Los Santos Alive today, and we are working with a small number of teams on bringing it to other games and simulations.
If that’s you, get in touch.
